The Silver Cord

"Remember Him- before the silver cord is severed, Or the golden bowl is broken;
Before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
Or the wheel broken at the well."
-Ecclesiastes 12

So what really prompted me to start this blog and become serious about understanding and utilizing my dreams was what I think might have been my first out of body experience. This occurred about a month ago, completely out of the blue.

I became aware of my body while sleeping, and sort of knew that I was dreaming. It was like I was dreaming that I was sleeping and just lying there on the bed where I'd fallen asleep. Since I had been so stressed out lately, I decided that it would probably be a good idea to give myself some Reiki, so I sort of gave myself a little blast of energy, and at that I found myself floating maybe three feet above my body. Whereas before I was in a very dream-like state, this sent me into full-blown acuity, although this acuity didn't last long.

The reason that it made me suddenly so sharp and lucid is because, in all the years that I've been sleeping and dreaming, I've never once floated and flown in any of my dreams. Oddly enough, although I can't swim very well and could probably count the number of hours I've spent submerged in water, I regularly swim in my dreams. Flying or floating has been completely unheard of for me. And what was more, I was floating above my body. What a trip.

I then, of course, panicked, as is often the case with my lucid dreaming experiences. I spent what felt like the next hour tearing through my apartment in what felt like a big emotional blur of confusion. I remember my boyfriend being there and trying to calm me down. I'm not sure if I went back to dreaming or if that was my astral body moving around, but I think I went back to dreaming because I can't remember it as well as I feel I would have otherwise. When I woke up, I thought that the episode of me panicking throughout the apartment was completely real, and I felt confused and ashamed to have made such a scene. It felt kind of like a bad drug trip. When I woke my boyfriend up, he didn't know what I was talking about.

I wonder what the fuck happened. Either way, now I know that astral travel is possible for me, even if I was only able to do it briefly. I've also once again recognized that I seriously need to work on being less of a spaz.
